Sofia was born in Miami and moved with her family to Chapel Hill when she was about nine years old. Growing up, they always had pets, and Sofia was the primary caregiver. As she got older, she expressed her passion for working with animals by volunteering at the Orange County Animal Shelter and by pet sitting for family friends.

After working in retail and as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Sofia decided to further her education and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from Miami Dade College. While back in Florida, she volunteered at the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter, several local animal clinics, and the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. Now back in Chapel Hill, she’s enrolled in a Veterinary Technician program at Central Carolina Community College. Sofia, her two dogs (Benadryl and Isaiah), and two cats (Rocky and Kurt) are all very happy to be back in Chapel Hill! And she has new additions to the family – a trio of rats named Louis, Dig “Duggi” Dug, and Sunny.
